Our Mission: To Increase financial resilience through skill exchange
“Technology should strengthen human connection and create economic opportunity, not extract from it.”
The seed of this idea took root during my time at eBay, watching people create value through peer-to-peer exchange. Over the next 20 years—building platforms at the intersection of content, community, and commerce at Yahoo!, Condé Nast, and Atlassian, plus coaching female-led early-stage startups—the concept evolved as I learned more about trust dynamics, marketplace mechanics, and what makes communities thrive.
Reciprocity represents the distillation of that experience: a platform where skills become currency, where economic mobility doesn’t require financial capital, where technology strengthens human connection rather than extracting from it.
The specific implementation has changed dozens of times. What hasn’t changed is the core philosophy guiding it—and the belief that problems like this are worth solving.
I’m sharing this vision to demonstrate how I think about product strategy, community-powered platforms, and technology’s role in creating opportunity. If you’re building in this space—or hiring someone who thinks this way—let’s talk.
What This Concept Deck Showcases:
✦ Community-powered platform strategy 20 years of building trust-based ecosystems at scale
✦ Trust-based ecosystem design From eBay’s peer-to-peer marketplace to Atlassian’s 78M-user community
✦ Values-driven product innovation Technology should strengthen human connection, not extract from it
✦ Problems worth solving at scale Economic mobility through skills, not cash
THE CHALLENGE WE’RE SOLVING
Traditional economies leave skills and experiences under-leveraged. Reciprocity reimagines value exchange beyond monetary systems.
💰 64% of Americans live paycheck-to-paycheck—including nearly half of six-figure earners
💼 67% of U.S. adults have a side hustle, yet many struggle to maximize returns when buyers are cash-strapped
🔧 44% of workers globally feel underutilized in their current roles
💡 Cash-based marketplaces exclude millions who have valuable skills but no disposable income
THE VISION: A NEW SKILL-BASED ECONOMY
Reciprocity: a digital platform designed to revolutionize how people barter skills, build trust, and create opportunities beyond monetary systems.
